“Dreams” by Langston Hughes is a two-stanza poem with an ABCB rhyme scheme that highlights the value of “dreams” by presenting two situations that revolve around the loss of those “dreams.”The first stanza reflects on the possible death of dreams in an “if” scenario, which indicates “dreams” do not have to “die” since they can be nurtured. Dreaming of people who in real life have died and were dear to us reveals dissatisfaction with our present life. If the dead acts accusing and vindictive it is a guilt complex linked with this person. If we dream of a loved one who has died and this person dies during that dream it indicates that from that moment our soul is with our beloved.

Dreaming of a dead person is a symbol of your happiness. It could mean difficult times ahead. The horror of death, or of seeing anybody dead in your dream, refers to your way of approaching the future. A death in a dream usually represents regret, nostalgia, disappearance, broken relationships, and mistrust in love.

Throughout the play we see the effects on the characters of their dreams and how they are put off or put through trials and tribulations to be able. As Nina’s worst fears flood back, she’s about to discover that the dreams of the dead can still destroy the living.
